The Meeting agenda is available online and the meeting can be viewed on MeckTV. The Board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m.
1. Measles Alert: Public Health has issued a new measles alert for multiple locations:
- Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center (1000 Blythe Blvd.) on Feb. 3, 6:30-11:30 p.m. and Feb. 4, 7 p.m. to midnight (Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital is not impacted by this exposure)
- Chipotle (239 S. Kings Dr.) on Feb. 3, 9:50-11:50 p.m.
- Goodwill (58085 University Point Blvd.) on Feb. 4,12-3:45 p.m.
- Goodwill (3710 West W.T. Harris Blvd.) on Feb. 4, 2-4:40 p.m.
This alert comes after a Feb. 7 alert for two locations in south Charlotte. Anyone who was at these locations during these times should monitor for symptoms and learn what to do after a potential measles exposure. These locations were not the source of infection and are safe to visit. The exposure is not linked to any case in Mecklenburg County, but from another jurisdiction. There are currently three reported cases of measles in Mecklenburg County. Public Health continues to encourage vaccination against the measles. The MMR vaccine is widely available at healthcare providers, retail pharmacies, and Public Health’s Immunization clinics. Visit Health.MeckNC.gov for learn more.
2. Building a Budget: As part of the process of crafting a budget for Fiscal Year 2026-2027, the Board of County Commissioners received presentations from two advisory groups on their budget priorities:
- The Domestic Violence Advisory Board’s priorities focus on shelter and housing, mental health, youth and teen support, and communications and awareness of existing resources.
- The Park and Recreation Commission’s priorities focus on maintenance, land acquisition, expanded projects, new programming, and safety and security.
County Manager Mike Bryant is scheduled to present his budget recommendation on May 14, a public hearing will be held on May 21, and the Board will adopt the FY2026-2027 budget on June 3. More information about the budget process is available at Budget.MeckNC.gov.
3. Register Now for MECK Pre-K: Registration is open for the 2026-2027 school year at MECK Pre-K, the high-quality pre-K program for all four-year-olds in Mecklenburg County, available at no cost to families. Families can secure their spot at MeckPreK.org. Since its launch in 2018, MECK Pre-K has helped thousands of children build strong foundations for their educational journey. Now, families from the program are reflecting on its impact as their children prepare for middle school: "My child absolutely looks forward to going to school every morning! They love getting to be with their friends and adore all their teachers."
4. Live Well Meck Tour: Public Health will host the Live Well Meck tour to share local health data and get feedback on future health needs and priorities. The events in Charlotte and each of the county’s six towns will review progress on the Community Health Assessment and help inform the 2026 Community Health Improvement Plan. The tour will begin Feb. 16 and run through the spring, and lead into the release of the 2026 Community Health Assessment. The events are free and open to the public.
5. Skybridge to Services: A Skybridge over the Blue Line railroad tracks will soon connect Eastway Regional Recreation Center and the Ella B. Scarborough Community Resource Center in northeast Charlotte. The 200-foot pedestrian bridge was lifted into place on Feb. 8 and secured onto two towers on either side of the tracks. It’s a big step forward in creating connectivity between the two Mecklenburg County facilities. The bridge will continue to receive finishing touches, including lighting, elevators, and security components, and is expected to open by the end of the year. The project was funded with money allocated from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
