3. Clean Air Games: Anyone who lives, works, or recreates in Mecklenburg County or the surrounding communities is encouraged to help reduce air pollution by participating in the Clean Air Games. Residents can make a difference, help improve air quality, and possibly win a prize. The goal of games is to reduce single-occupancy car trips. Residents can enter each day they carpool, bike, walk, or pack a lunch. The less residents use a car, the less air pollution they produce. More trips equal a greater chance of winning. Prize winners will be announced weekly until Friday, July 26. Visit AirQuality.MeckNC.gov to learn more.
4. Gator Gone Electric: Mecklenburg County is rocking down electric avenue with its latest utility vehicle. A John Deere Gator electric utility vehicle has replaced a model with a diesel engine at the Compost Central Recycling Center, 140 Valleydale Road, Charlotte, NC 28214. The vehicle allows County facilities to reduce emissions and promote sustainability in the community. The Solid Waste Management Program operates using an Environmental Management System that considers the impacts and efficiencies of operations, and it is the only solid waste program in North Carolina to hold this accreditation.
5. Five Things Instead of Fireworks: Independence Day is approaching and that means many residents are tempted to set off their own fireworks. But remember that some fireworks are illegal in North Carolina and the Mecklenburg County Fire Marshal’s Office wants to ensure that everyone remains safe and within the law. In addition to heading out to enjoy a professional show, here are some options to celebrate the holiday safely without risking a fire or injury.
