Andrew (Andy) Fair, Interim & Deputy Director of Public Information
Andrew (Andy) Fair began his career with Mecklenburg County in October 2000 as a Public Information Officer with the Department of Social Services, working on the child safety initiative Protecting Kids: Everyone’s Job. In 2002, he transitioned to the Public Health Department, leading initiatives focused on child safety, childhood immunizations, wellness, and other key community health priorities.
In 2005, Andy assumed the role of Health and Human Services Communication Team Leader, overseeing priority communications initiatives across multiple departments, including Social Services, Public Health, Mental Health, and Community Support Services. In 2012, he joined the Public Information Department and was later promoted to Public Information Manager, where he led both external and internal communications for the County.
In 2022, he was promoted to Deputy Director of Public Information, a role he continues to hold. Following the retirement of longtime Public Information Director Danny Diehl in March 2025, Andy was appointed Interim Public Information Director.
His previous experience includes communications and marketing roles at Davidson College (WDAV), Price/McNabb Advertising, and Belk Brothers Stores Services.
Throughout his tenure, Andy has played a key role in numerous countywide initiatives, providing strategic leadership to advance the County’s and the Board of County Commissioners’ priorities. He is a past member of the Public Relations Society of Charlotte and remains active in professional organizations such as 3CMA (City/County Communications and Marketing Association) and NC3C (North Carolina City/County Communications Association). He also served as a southern director of NACIO (National Association of Communication Information Officers).
Andy has been married for nearly 30 years and is the proud father of two grown children.
